Hi, here Hugo, born and raised in Lisbon, Portugal. Since very young I enjoy football,
long before Portugal became European champion but always supporting the best club in the \
in the world – Sport Lisboa e Benfica. I also enjoyed Bodyboard, a lot!
On my way from childhood to adulthood, I’ve’
published a poetry book before I decided it would be a good idea to go back to studying.
University of Lisbon was the place I choose to get my Computer Science degree and
Information Security MSc. at the same time I was developing my interest on startups.
While studying I’ve co-founded a small business with two colleagues consisting on
a marketplace for students where they could monetize their class notes and
all sorts of material related with studying (e.g. summaries, tests, etc.) and the more
lazy ones could save some time by buying those. Students don’t have money, so it failed
miserably. Lesson number one: don’t try to reinvent the wheel, and make use of all tools you have at hand.
At this point was time to say goodbye to the motherland and I moved to London where I
would be living for the next four years, expanding my experience mainly as Backend Engineer
by being part of multiple startups over that time. Had enough from London, it was time
to go for another adventure and a calmer place.
Right in the beginning of 2018 I moved to Amsterdam and join GWW as Software Developer.
Slowly and step-by-step I’m becoming less focused on Backend Development only and migrating
to a more Full-Stack approach. This experience is allowing me to get out of my comfort zone
and explore things I never thought I would be interested in.
So Python and Django are not my exclusive interests anymore – I’m enjoying
